When we read any Bible verse on its own, we’ll understand something, but in a limited way in which it’s easy to misinterpret things. It’s like smelling a pineapple but refusing to taste or touch it in order to understand it better. There are a number of things you can do that will help you faithfully read any given Bible text. The Five Senses of Faithful Bible Reading summarises the ‘five senses’ that Mike explains in the appendix: How to Faithfully approach a Bible text (A New Freedom, pp. 229–239) and the rough order in which to use them. You could use this tool as a basic method for reading the Bible in a small group, on your own, or in a talk to a larger group.
